The Department of Cultural & Governmental Affairs
 Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, long-time Slidell resident, died Saturday, September 10, 2005 in Orange, Texas, where he had gone to escape Hurricane Katrina. He was 81. The Grammy award winning singer and guitarist built a 50-year career playing blues, country, jazz and Cajun music.
The Department of Cultural & Governmental Affairs consists of the following divisions:

The responsibilities of this department are:
- To provide accurate and timely information to St. Tammany Parish residents regarding emergency and government issues through all available media.
- To enrich the lives of the citizens of St. Tammany Parish by nurturing, sustaining and enhancing the arts.
- To administer Access St. Tammany, Cable Channel 10.
- To educate citizens about parish government, government services, and general information regarding St. Tammany Parish.
- To monitor cable television franchising, and supporting services, in St. Tammany Parish.
