St. Tammany Parish Receives Disaster Declaration for Hurricane Rita

Parish President Kevin Davis announced this morning that St. Tammany Parish has been notified that all of Louisiana, including St. Tammany Parish, has been authorized to receive federal aid under the emergency disaster declaration for Hurricane Rita.

Under the declaration, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and to provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency. Emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance, will be provided at 75 percent of approved costs. For a period up to 72 hours, Federal funding is available at 100 percent of the total eligible costs for emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance.

“I want to thank President Bush for his continuing support during this crisis,” said Davis.  “He sincerely wants to aid the people of St. Tammany.  This declaration will assist us in funding some of the costs the parish incurred responding to Hurricane Rita.  With resources stretched thin from Katrina, this help is all the more valuable.”

The total cost of the Hurricane Rita response in St. Tammany Parish is not available at this time.
