WEEKEND ARTS & CULTURAL EVENTS – October 14 – 16, 2005.

Skyfire Theatre presents Greater Tuna. Fridays & Saturdays, through Oct. 29, at 8pm, and Sunday, Oct. 16, 3pm. 332 N. New Hampshire Street, Covington. Admission: Pay what you will. Proceeds to benefit Northshore Pelican Foundation, a 501(c) 3 tax-deductible corporation established to help St. Tammany citizens recover from the devastation of Katrina. The St. Tammany Art Association presents FALL FOR ART coordinated gallery openings. Saturday, Oct. 15th, 6pm-10pm. Downtown Covington. Join us for a leisurely stroll through the streets of Covington. Relax and enjoy great music and fine art. Call 892-8650.

Fort Isabel Gallery opening Fall For Art. Saturday, October 15, 6 - 10pm. 502 North Columbia Street, Covington.

Featuring a retrospective of work by the late Beryl Youngblood Carbon and work by gallery artists Carol Hallock, Suzanne King, Wes Koon, Delaina Leblanc, Carol Lapari, Martin Needom, Ginger Pine, Johnny Stout and Lynda Thurlow. Gallery Hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 10 to 4. Call 892-1841.

Third Sunday Concert Series at Christ Church. Sunday, October 16, at 5pm. 120 S. New Hampshire St., Covington. Free concert features the Bayou Liberty Jazz Band. The concert will be followed by a reception. Call (985) 892-3177.

City of Slidell presents a free Bayou Jam Concert with The Alley Cats. Sunday, October 16, 5 -7pm. Heritage Park, Slidell. The Alley Cats play a variety of classic pop and rock favorites. The following resources and information are offered as a public service and are not endorsed by the St. Tammany Arts Commission.

COMPUTER AND INTERNET ACCESS: ST. TAMMANY PARISH LIBRARIES offer free internet service, copies, and other assistance are available at all libraries for FEMA registration and other disaster-related uses. The Covington, Robert Road/Slidell, Mandeville, and Causeway Branches are open. Hours for October will be Mon-Thurs 8am-7pm, Fri & Sat 9am-5pm (closed Sunday). The Abita, Bush, Folsom, Lee Rd, Lacombe, & Pearl River Branches are open Mon thru Fri 9am - 6pm. Additional computer workstations have been added for public use. Library telephones are available for patron use as service allows. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Pontchartrain/Slidell branch and severely damaged the Madisonville Branch. Patrons with hurricane damaged or missing books should contact or visit their branch library. Fines are suspended until the end of the year. AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND: Support to Local Arts Agencies Affected by Disasters

The Americans for the Arts Emergency Relief Fund was established to provide timely financial assistance to victims of a major disaster for the purpose of helping them rebuild the arts in their community. Relief funds are distributed directly to local arts agencies and other cultural relief efforts. Applications may be submitted online or by fax at 202.371.0424. If you are limited to phone access, you may apply by telephone. Call Americans for the Arts toll free at 866.471.2787 and ask for the Americans for the Arts Emergency Relief Fund. Applications may be handwritten. Applicants do not need to be a member of Americans for the Arts. Check the Americans for the Arts website at http://ww3.artsusa.org/get_involved/emergency_relief_fund/001.asp# for eligibility requirements and additional information.

THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS HAS RELEASED A PUBLICATION: Before and After Disasters Federal funding for Cultural Institutions. The publication is available in pdf format at http://www.arts.gov/pub/DisasterRecovery.pdf

THE LOUISIANA PARTNERSHIP FOR THE ARTS: has created a statewide Displacement Database to provide contact information for artists and arts agencies that have evacuated to other areas. Access the database at http://www.lparts.org/

FEMA ASSISTANCE FOR NON-PROFIT AGENCIES: Your agency may be eligible for assistance by filing a “Request for Public Assistance” through FEMA. Contact Larry Fisher, Public Assistance Coordinator at (225) 346-4199. All agencies that receive Public Assistance may also qualify for a low interest government loan.
