PARISH GOVERNMENT, SPONSORS TO THANK CITIZENS WITH FREE CONCERT AT TAMMANY TRACE

Would-be werewolves and goblins, superheroes and legends are invited to participate in a costume contest at the Tammany Trace Trailhead Caboose next Saturday, Oct. 29, 6-9 p.m., at a free concert dubbed “TGFY – Thank God For You.”

TGFY is being organized as a thank-you to citizens of the parish for their dedication and hard work in rebuilding St. Tammany after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and for maintaining the spirit of our community. The concert will feature Christian Serpas and Ghost Town, The Thunder Creek Band, and Missy & Ray – all of whom are donating their performances. Sponsors are St. Tammany Parish Government, the Tammany Trace Foundation, and the St. Tammany News.

Free hot dogs and hamburgers will be available from Thompson Meat Packers of Slidell and local cook Mike Pike, and Pepsi Americas has donated soft drinks. Ice chests are permitted, and attendees are asked to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets.

Cash prizes for costumes will be offered, with $100 for the first-place winner, $75 for the second-place finisher, and $50 for the third place participant.

“In the wake of terrible disasters, the citizens of St. Tammany Parish have shown their true character,” Parish President Kevin C. Davis said. “We are a people of resolve and passion, and everyone is committed to helping our neighbors while we focus on our common goal of rebuilding together.”

“The St. Tammany News is proud to sponsor this event as a way to express our gratitude for all everyone has done to help restore the parish,” publisher Terry Maddox said. “We want to give back to the community in this way to help continue our role in leading the way to recovery.”
