CON MEN POSING AS FEMA CONTRACTORS
Victims of Hurricane Katrina awaiting the placement of travel trailers have been targeted by con artists posing as FEMA contractors, and Parish President Kevin Davis is alerting citizens.
Employees in the Parish Government Permits Office have been contacted by several citizens who say contractors have come to their homes claiming to represent FEMA and asking for payment of $2,000 to prepare the site for trailer installation.
FEMA does not charge to install trailers and if changes are required to any utility systems, FEMA will make those changes at no charge to the homeowner.
“That anyone who would take advantage of people in these difficult times is simply disgusting,” Davis said. “I encourage anyone who is approached by these scam artists to immediately contact local law enforcement.”
