Pickup of Household Hazardous Waste
Or how to get the smelly refrigerator out of the front yard

            The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality are picking up household hazardous waste and refrigerant containing appliances throughout St. Tammany Parish.  The program includes the removal of materials such as batteries, chemicals, insecticides, paints and solvents, propane tanks, refrigerators, freezers, window a/c units, and other hazardous wastes commonly found in and around homes.

            Citizens with waste of this type can call 1-800-401-1327 to arrange for pick up.  The agency representative will need the address where the material is located and a brief description of the type of waste to be removed.

            While no cutoff date has been established for this program, St. Tammany Parish advises residents with household hazardous waste to make arrangements as soon as possible.
