Sign, Sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
After four days dedicated to cleaning up St. Tammany Parish rights-of-way, St. Tammany Parish Code Enforcement officers have removed over twenty-one truckloads of signs. Depending upon the sizes of the signs, each truckload represents between 75 and 100 illegal signs.
“We are moving across the parish,” said Code Enforcement Supervisor Mark Ford. “All six code enforcement officers, with assistance from litter abatement, are on a clean up mission.”
Following Hurricane Katrina, Parish government suspended enforcement of the ban on small, temporary roadside signs until November 15, 2005. This allowed local businesses to re-establish contact with their customers during the time of disrupted communications.
“We needed to give our local businesses the opportunity to communicate with their customers,” said Parish President Kevin Davis. “Now that local news media and advertising are returning, we are enforcing the laws concerning our rights-of-way. I want to commend the code enforcement officers for their hard work.”
