Davis Goes To Washington, D.C.

Meetings with Congressional & White House Staff

Parish President Kevin Davis and Chief Administrative Officer Bill Oiler leave today for two days of back-to-back meetings in Washington D.C. Beginning Tuesday morning, Davis meets with the American Public Works Association and later key Congressional Staff members to discuss the rebuilding of southeastern Louisiana and highlighting the specific plans for St. Tammany Parish.

“We must continue to work as a region to bring back our economy, and thus our quality of life,” said Davis.  “Regional recovery is essential for St. Tammany’s economic health.”

“St. Tammany Parish is diligently working on its recovery effort following the 10 Year Capital Infrastructure Plan and the New Directions 2025 vision,” continued Davis.  “We are working our plan and making great strides toward recovery.  However, we need federal assistance for projects that are beyond our scope, such as levee systems and waterway cleaning.”

Meetings with Congressman Bobby Jindal and Senator David Vitter are planned as well as a briefing with a Deputy Assistant to President Bush.  “Our congressional delegation is working hard.  I am hoping that this trip will assist them as they fight for us in Washington.  The federal government, and the nation, needs to see first-hand how we are helping ourselves and then why we need additional assistance.”
