Slidell Section of the Tammany Trace Opens Saturday
The section of the Tammany Trace in Slidell from Neslo Road to Christa Drive will open on Saturday, January 7th. Trace Rangers are on duty on this 2.5 mile stretch from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.
St. Tammany Parish Government and debris cleanup crews are continuing the process of clearing the trace path. Crews are working on the section from Christa Drive to the Bayou Lacombe Bridge.
Many of the bridges and paths on the Trace were damaged and obstructed by debris. Restoration and cleanup has taken a lot of time due to the extent of debris and destruction in the area caused by hurricane Katrina.
“Crews are working as quickly as possible to restore and clear the Trace. I am optimistic that the rest of the Tammany Trace will be safe and ready for use very soon,” said Parish President Kevin Davis.
A 9-mile section of the Trace, from the Mandeville Trailhead to the Abita Bridge is currently open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.
Tidy Up the Trace - two community clean-up days, are scheduled for Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21, from 8am - 4pm. Come out to help us clear up the debris on the Trace. If you are interested in participating, please contact Lisa Pratt at 985-867-9490 for details.
