NEW ‘NORTHSHORE NEWS’ FEATURES TAX ISSUES, NON-PROFITS
The 15th edition of “Northshore News” began airing last night and is also available for viewing on the Parish Government website.
In this latest edition, topics include the procedure for requesting a review of property tax bills and an interview with Assessor Patricia Schwarz Core; a profile of Animal Control Services and pet adoption opportunities with Dr. Brent Robbins of Parish Animal Services; a look at the impact of Katrina on health and human services programs through an interview with HHS Liaison John Tobin; a look at the effects of Katrina on cancer patients and treatment with Tonya Jackson-Ramsey of the American Cancer Society; and information about Safe Harbor, St. Tammany’s only battered women’s shelter, from Safe Harbor Board President Liz Ballas.
“Northshore News” airs daily at 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Charter Cable Channel 10, the Government Access Channel, and is available any time at www.stpgov.org.
Parish President Kevin Davis launched the program in October to bring St. Tammany’s residents information about Katrina recovery. The show is produced by Access St. Tammany, and features 30 minutes of St. Tammany-related information in a news-style format. Previous guests have included state Senators Tom Schedler, Julie Quinn and Walter Boasso; state Representatives Mike Strain, Diane Winston, Tim Burns, and Pete Schneider; State Treasurer John Kennedy; Mayors Candace Watkins of Covington, Ben Morris of Slidell, James Lavigne of Pearl River, Louis Fitzmorris of Abita Springs, and Eddie Price of Mandeville; Coroner Peter Galvan; Sheriff Jack Strain; District Attorney Walter Reed; Frances Barker from the American Red Cross; Dorothy Garcia of the Children’s Advocacy Center; leaders from numerous churches parishwide; Slidell Police Chief Freddy Drennan; Mandeville Police Chief Tom Buell; Fire District 1 Chief Larry Hess; Fire District 4 Chief Rick Tassin; Fire Superintendent John P. O’Neil; and leaders from the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and many other non-profit organizations. Previous editions of the program can also be viewed online.
Producers encourage and invite viewer feedback and requests for inclusion in the program, particularly from non-profit and volunteer organizations serving St. Tammany.
