Katharsis Exhibit Opens in Slidell.
In October the St. Tammany Arts Commission requested submissions for a new public art project: Katharsis: Artistic Expressions by St. Tammany resident artists in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The exhibit will open with a reception on Saturday, March 18, from 6-8pm, in the Slidell Art League Gallery, 1827 Front St. (Train Depot Building), in Slidell, LA.
The exhibit opening reception is free, and the public is encouraged to attend. The artwork and the reception are sponsored by the St. Tammany Arts Commission.
Seven pieces of original art were commissioned for this project. The purpose is to give St. Tammany artists an opportunity to visually express their experiences from Hurricane Katrina. It is our intent to show the work in communities throughout St. Tammany Parish in the months to follow. By sharing the artwork of resident artists at sites across the Parish, we hope to encourage dialogue among citizens, and promote healing within our community.
This project is funded by a donation from Americans for the Arts and the St. Tammany Arts Commission. Special thanks to the Slidell Art League, and the City of Slidell Department of Cultural and Public Affairs for their assistance with this exhibit. If you have any questions, contact the St. Tammany Arts Commission, 985-898-3011.
