BURN BAN REINSTATED

Parish President Kevin Davis this morning reinstated the ban on burning in unincorporated St. Tammany at the request of local fire prevention authorities.

Recent dry weather combined with high winds, timber and other flammable debris has contributed to an increase in the number of fires. Yesterday, fire prevention officials asked that the ban be re-issued to reduce the volume of calls for service and protect public safety.

“We understand people are anxious to dispose of flammable debris in a responsible way, but we have to protect lives and property,” Davis said. “Hopefully, weather will soon alleviate the concern and we’ll be able to allow lawful burning again.”

Even when burning is permitted, Parish Ordinances impose strict guidelines to prevent tragedy. More information about legal burning is available at www.stpgov.org or through your local fire department.
