Time for Spring Cleaning
Parish will help groups with free bags, gloves and litter grabbers

As Hurricane Katrina debris removal begins to wind down, spring cleaning is more important then ever in St. Tammany Parish.  It’s time to clean up our parks and other public places.  It’s time to clean roads and ditches.  It’s time to take pride in the beauty of St. Tammany Parish.

“I am asking every citizen of St. Tammany to help clean our parish,” said Parish President Kevin Davis.  “We are working as quickly as we can to complete debris removal from the storm.  It’s time now to take the next step and see how much litter is accumulating in our ditches and other public places.  We need to pick up after ourselves and then keep our parish clean.”

To help with the clean up, the parish Department of Environmental Services will provide bags, litter grabbers, and gloves to any civic organization, community group, or Homeowners Association interested in conducting community clean-ups.  The clean-up support program is being held in conjunction with the Great American Clean Up 2006, one of the largest annual community improvement programs conducted in the United States.

Citizens living along Military Road in Slidell are invited to a community clean up this Saturday, March 25th.  Neighbors are asked to meet at the Sav A Center by E. Gause Blvd at 8:45 AM.  St. Tammany Parish will pick up the bags filled by citizens working on this clean up day.  The Parish Litter Abatement crew also assisted a Gause Blvd. clean-up completed by Slidell area realtors on Monday, March 13th

Any community group wishing to conduct a clean-up is encouraged to complete a participation form and wrap up report so that information regarding the clean-up can be submitted to Keep America Beautiful.  Forms are available by calling 898-2535.

Any community group wishing to utilize gloves, grabbers and bags should call the Parish Department of Environmental Services at 898-2535 and ask for Greg Gorden.  Please call at least five days in advance to allow for proper scheduling.

All groups will be asked to please return gloves and grabbers to Environmental Services.
