Highway 11 Widening between
Gause Blvd. & Lafayette
Work Order Issued
Parish President Kevin Davis announced today that a work order was issued on March 20, 2006 authorizing the extension of a turn lane on Highway 11 between Gause Blvd. and Lafayette Street. The relocation of utilities will begin shortly.
St. Tammany Parish Department of Engineering used their new traffic modeling technology to address traffic congestion issues along the Highway 11 corridor in the Slidell area. This is the second project implemented by LaDOTD based on that study. The first project was turning lane improvements at the West Hall Avenue intersection. “The technology allowed us to define traffic flow issues on Highway 11 and to create solutions that LaDOTD could implement. This is a win/win situation,” said Davis.
A contract in the amount of $811,299.80 was awarded on February 17th to Boh Brothers, the low bidder. Work should begin April 20th on the LaDOTD project. It will take approximately three months, weather permitting, to complete construction.
The Regional Planning Commission, which Davis currently chairs, worked closely with LaDOTD to get this project priority funding. “Safety is a strong concern along this stretch of Highway,” said Davis. “This is one more step in our plan to improve the state highway. We need to continue the push to continue widening Highway 11 all the way from Gause Blvd. to the I-12 interchange.”
