PRESS RELEASE
STATE PROJECT 737-90-0043
05/15/06
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development [DOTD] advises today that the final pass for the collection of hurricane debris in the southeastern area of St. Tammany Parish be extended to May 30, 2006. The final pass for collection of debris will follow the same plan as that of St. Tammany Parish which has also been extended to May 30, 2006, for the southeastern portion of the Parish. The final dates to place eligible debris on the right-of-way of state routes are May 1, 2006, for the northern two thirds of the parish, May 8, 2006, for the southwestern portion of the parish, and May 30, 2006, for the southeastern portion of the parish.
DOTD removal activities are limited to eligible debris only. For debris to be considered eligible, it must be storm placed debris or residential debris related to storm damage.
- Debris originating from restoration/construction activities such as new roofs, new siding, etc. is not eligible for collection. Only demolition debris that is specifically related to storm damage will be removed.
- Any debris that originates from any undeveloped properties such as pastures, agricultural land, timber land, etc., is not eligible for collection.
- Debris that originates from commercial properties is not eligible for collection.
- Debris that is being generated from a contracted demolition, restoration, and construction work is not eligible for collection.
- Household garbage should not be included with hurricane debris and is not eligible for collection.
- Ineligible debris should be removed and disposed of by the property owner or responsible party. Any parties placing ineligible debris on DOTD right-of-way will be held responsible for any and all costs associated with its removal and disposal as well as any fines and/or penalties for such illegal activities.
For the final collection, the parish has been divided geographically into three areas with a different pickup deadline for each area.
Residents in the northern two-thirds of the parish had until the May 1 deadline to place debris along state highway right-of-way to ensure collection during the final pass. The May 1 deadline applies to residents in the areas with the postal Zip codes 70420, 70427, 70431, 70435, 70437, 70438, and 70452.
