 ST. TAMMANY ARTS COMMISSION TGIF CONCERTS: SWING WITH LEIF PEDERSEN & THE D-DAY BAND.
FRIDAY, MAY 26. 6-8PM
.

The very popular outdoor TGIF concert series resumes on Friday, May 26th, at 6pm with a FREE concert by the slick and hip D-Day Band featuring Leif Pedersen. The band will put some cool Swing in your spring! They are a real crowd pleaser. St. Tammany Parish Government and the St. Tammany Arts Commission, in cooperation with the Tammany Trace Foundation are pleased to announce the return of the TGIF Concert Series on the Tammany Trace. Concerts are held at the Tammany Trace Caboose, I-12 Exit 65 North, at the water tower on Koop Drive. This is an outdoor concert under the pavilion so bring your chairs and blankets, pack your picnic, and come down for a lovely event. Ice chests and food are welcome.  There is plenty of free parking adjacent to the Trace. ST. TAMMANY PARISH CULTURAL SEASON GUIDE - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS JUNE 1, 2006

In 2004, the St. Tammany Arts Commission created the first Cultural Season Guide. Due to the overwhelming popularity and demand for the publication we are undertaking this project again. The St. Tammany Parish Cultural Season Guide is a full-color, glossy publication that includes events calendars with theatre seasons, gallery openings, directory information, fairs, festivals and more. The new Cultural Season Guide will cover events from August 15, 2006, through July 31, 2007. If you did not participate in this comprehensive cooperative marketing project last year, this is your opportunity. Your organization's arts programming can be showcased and distributed to over 60,000 households, businesses, hotels, and individuals in St. Tammany Parish and at targeted tourist destinations. ST. TAMMANY PARISH LIBRARY PRESENTS SUMMER READING CLUB 2006. "Paws To Read" It's going to be "reading cats and dogs" this summer at the library as we celebrate our best frineds: pets and books.  Kids are invited to get their paws on some books and join in the fun of learning about various types of pets during our 2006 Louisiana Summer Reading Program, "Paws To Read."  Kids from birth to 11 will have a tail-wagging good time.  Each branch will  host weekly storytimes as well as special guests.  Guests will include storytellers Dianne de Las Casas, Grayhawk, and Miss Lillie; musicians Papillion, Journey of the Drum and Philip Melancon; demonstrations by police dogs; magic by Tricky Trigg; a visit from Daisy the Pig and comedian for kids Fuzzlebob.  The summer will end with parties and special performances of the "tail" of "Puss In Boots" by the Calliope Puppet Theatre  Call the children's services office at 985-893-6280 ext 112 or visit www.sttammany.lib.la.us/kiddssrc2006.htm

THE 2nd ANNUAL LACOMBE CRAB COOK-OFF FESTIVAL CALL TO ARTISTS AND CRAFTSMEN: Looking for artists and craftsmen to participate in the Cultural Village Tent and Artist Walk at John Davis Park on June 24th and 25th, 2006.  There will be a 20' x 60' Cultural Village tent with ten display spaces and  individual 10' x 10' and 10' x 20' tents provided under the oak trees for your display. Cost for space, tent, table, and chair is $25.00 and 10% of sales. There will be no cost to nonprofits wishing to display information about their organizations. THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS YOUTH ORCHESTRA, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE NEW ORLEANS CENTER FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS: Now accepting applications for the 2006 Summer Music Festival, which features two orchestras: a string orchestra for students aged 8 to 12 and a full orchestra for those aged 12 to 19.  Dr. Kent Jensen of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will conduct the string ensemble and Scott Parkman, Assistant Conductor for the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra will serve as guest conductor for the full orchestra. The festival takes place 9:30am - 4 pm, May 28 - June 2, 2006 at NOCCA|Riverfront (2800 Chartres Street, New Orleans, LA 70117.) STAA’s goal is to promote it’s artists, boost interest and participation, and increase revenue for the Art Association. PLAYMAKERS SUMMER THEATER CAMPS: Levy/Playmakers to stage Alice in Wonderland, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and The Sword in the Stone for kids ages 5-16. Each fully-supervised camp day includes sessions in stage movement, line delivery, improvisation, fundamentals of theater, dance, and the staging of a production.
