EMERGENCY OFFICIALS TO MEET WITH FAITH-BASED LEADERSHIP

Pastors and other leaders of faith-based volunteer organizations in St. Tammany Parish have been invited to attend a special meeting at the Emergency Operations Center, 510 E. Boston St., Covington, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m.

After Hurricane Katrina struck last year, faith-based organizations (FBOs) were among the most responsive in offering aid to victims and housing volunteers who flocked to the area from other states.  In many cases, FBOs provided the staging points for relief supply delivery and distribution, including feeding thousands of people affected by the storm.

This year, leaders of faith-based organizations are being included in emergency operations plans and will be represented at the Emergency Operations Center if severe weather is threatening our area.

At the meeting on Tuesday, those in attendance will discuss space availability at various churches, aid capacity, and communications plans.

Letters have been mailed to most churches in the parish, but many facilities have relocated or changed leadership in the last year.  Please ensure your faith-based organization’s leader is aware of this event.
