KATRINA SERVICE TO BE BROADCAST LIVE
Parish President Kevin Davis will host a Katrina Service of Remembrance on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. at North Shore Beach south of Slidell. The event is open to the public, and interested citizens who are unable to attend can listen to the ceremony live on WNOE (101.1 FM), WWL (870 AM) and WYLK “The Lake” (94.7 FM).
The event will feature speakers from three faith-based organizations, Senator Mary Landrieu, Fire Superintendent John O’Neil, and Sheriff Jack Strain. Congressman Bobby Jindal and Sen. David Vitter have also been invited.
At the end of the service, those in attendance will be asked to take a flower (donated by Cleco) and throw it into Lake Pontchartrain. As they depart, citizens are asked to take a pack of seeds (donated by Lowe’s) to plant somewhere in the Parish as a symbol of rebirth.
Television and print media will also be in attendance.
