 ST. TAMMANY ARTS COMMISSION ANNOUNCES SECOND ROUND OF LOUISIANA DECENTRALIZED ARTS FUNDING GRANTS - APPLICATION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15. This year the St. Tammany Arts Commission is accepting applications for additional Decentralized Arts Funding Grants for St. Tammany Parish. Guidelines and application forms are available for the program in St. Tammany Parish, and may be downloaded at www.stpgov.org/arts . Applications are available for arts project assistance only. If you applied in the first round this year, and did not receive funding, you may re-apply. If your organization received full or partial funding you are not eligible to apply for the same project. Please contact us if you have questions regarding eligibility requirements. All projects must occur between December 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007. NORTH SHORE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS ANNOUNCE THE "ARTIST OF THE MONTH" for August is Karla Cole of Folsom. Her brightly-colored oil paintings, which are inspired by flowers, touch viewers with their simplicity and exuberance. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2006 GOVERNOR'S ARTS AWARDS. The Office of the Lt. Governor and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and the Louisiana Division of the Arts announces the Call for Nominations for the 2006 Governor's Arts Awards.  The deadline to submit a nomination is Wednesday, September 6, 2006. Governor's Arts Awards will be made in the following categories: Arts Education (Organization); Arts Education (Individual); Arts Organization (Small); Arts Organization (Large); Business/Corporate Support (Small); Business/Corporate Support (Large); Folk Artist; Lifetime Achievement; Patron; Professional Artist; and Leadership in the Arts (Previously Promotion of the Arts).

LOOKING FOR ARTISTS… 

MANDEVILLE CITIZENS URGED TO “SHOW AND TELL”. If you have some interesting stories, letters, photos, films or artifacts relating to the rich 170-year history of Mandeville, the City has an offer for you.  A recently announced “Art for Artifact” program will give a limited edition color reproduction of a 1920’s era poster promoting the City to anyone providing useful historical information that can be used in the Cultural and Interpretive Center planned at the Trailhead in Old Mandeville. This is part of an overall effort to create exhibits at the Trailhead that will show natives and visitors alike what a special place Mandeville is.  The project is funded by a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Additional information about Art for Artifacts, and on the progress of the exhibits, can be found at www.ourmandeville.com   An historical round table regarding Mandeville is also being planned for some time in the future. 

LOUISIANA DIVISION OF THE ARTS - PERCENT FOR ART PROGRAM ANNOUNCES A CALL FOR ARTISTS. Louisiana Office of State Parks - Poverty Point State Historic Site. This Call is not limited to Louisiana artists. Application Deadline: Friday, September 22, 2006. Budget: up to $10,000. The Office of State Parks seeks to commission a series of full color renditions that will illustrate the culture and community of the Native American peoples that constructed this ancient mound site. In addition to the completed illustrations on archival paper, publication quality digital images to reproduce onto high pressure laminate panels are required. CITY OF SLIDELL INVITES ARTISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN ARTS EVENING 2006. Arts Evening will be held Saturday, November 4 in Olde Town Slidell. The event features over 100 artists located at over 40 locations throughout Olde Town Slidell. Artists from throughout the United States are welcome to submit applications for participation in this year’s events. Participation is free for qualifying artists. SLIDELL ART LEAGUE OFFERING WORKSHOPS. The Slidell Art League is offering two very popular workshops for the month of September.  On September 16, an "Oil Painting" workshop is being taught by 2005 "Artist of the Year", Bruce Hume.  On September 30, Jean Lajaunie, presents her "Pastel Painting" workshop.  Space is limited and both these workshops have sold out in the past.  The fee is $5.00 for SALT Members (Slidell Art League for Teens), $10.00 for Slidell Art League Members, and $20.00 for the general public.  Workshops are open to advanced as well as novice artists.  All skill levels are encouraged to attend. call Slidell Art League Gallery Coordinator, Laurie Manley at (985) 847-9458 or email her at slidellartsleague@yahoo.com 

THE GRANT INSTITUTE GRANTS 101: PROFESSIONAL GRANT PROPOSAL WRITING WORKSHOP TO BE HELD AT LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY, BATON ROUGE. THREE RIVERS ART FESTIVAL-10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY: CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS. The festival is completely staffed and organized by volunteers throughout our community. THE LOUISIANA CULTURAL ECONOMY FOUNDATION. supports Louisiana’s cultural industries. The Foundation now has relief grants available to fund losses sustained as a result of Hurricanes Katrina & Rita.
