Davis Requests Veteran’s Cemetery
Parish President Kevin Davis spoke to the Louisiana Department of Veteran’s Affairs this morning requesting that a proposed veteran’s cemetery be located in St. Tammany Parish.
“We need to honor the men and women of our armed forces,” said Davis. “This is only one of the many projects the parish is advocating for St. Tammany. We have requested a VA clinic to make health care accessible. We also provide office space for VA offices in the parish.”
Davis’ proposal to the LaDVA is for a veteran’s cemetery located on 50 acres near LA Highway 1088, north of Interstate 12. This location is near the proposed new I-12 Interchange.
“Over 135,000 veterans live in southeastern Lousiana,” said Davis. “A cemetery in St. Tammany would be convenient to the veterans’ families. Easy access to Interstates 10, 12, 55 and 59 make this an ideal site. The proposed new state highway, Hwy. 3241, will connect Washington Parish to I-12 in St. Tammany, and will pass near the St. Tammany Veterans Cemetery site.”
The Louisiana Department of Veteran’s Affairs is expected to make a decision quickly.
