Household
Hazardous Waste Collection Day
October 28, 9am-12pm.
St. Tammany Parish Dept. of Environmental Services and the Honey Island Group of the Delta Chapter Sierra Club is sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on October 28, 2006. Residents have the opportunity to eliminate hazardous materials from their homes by bringing them to the St. Tammany Parish Administrative Complex located at 21490 Koop Drive in Mandeville for recycling or safe disposal.
Items that will be accepted for collection include:
(incandescent, fluorescent, etc.)
(thermometers and thermostats)
Used tires will also be accepted with a limit of 5 per household.
E-waste such as computers, monitors, keyboards, and VCR and DVD players, stereos and speakers can be disposed of at the event. One television per vehicle will be accepted. NO COPIERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
To ensure safety, residents are asked to tighten caps and lids, leave materials in the original labeled containers or label the contents of containers that are missing the original labels. Hazardous chemicals should never be mixed so residents are encouraged to sort and pack them separately.
Additional safety measures include avoiding smoking while handling hazardous materials and packing vehicles when ready to go directly to the collection site. Chemicals should be placed in the trunk or the truck bed and not transported in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
Hazardous waste from businesses will not be accepted. Vendor sponsors include Colt, Inc., LEI, Office Depot, Recycle Alliance, and Rineco.
