LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY, BATON ROUGE ANNOUNCES CALL FOR PAPERS:  Louisiana Folklore Society Meeting, March 9-10, 2007. "Community, Culture, and Carnival: Emerging and Lasting Traditions". The Louisiana Folklore Society is seeking papers that deal with the emergence of community, carnival, and expressive culture in Louisiana in the re-building of the region. We are particularly interested in papers and presentations that deal with carnival, in its many manifestations, across the state, nation, and in global contexts. ST. TAMMANY ART ASSOCIATION IS SENDING OUT A CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR THE ST. TAMMANY NATIONAL ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL, IN HONOR OF WALKER PERCY:  The festival will be held January 12-13, 2007 at the Greater Covington Center.  Four one-acts will be chosen to be presented as rehearsed readings during the two-day festival.  Each of the winning playwrights will receive a $100 prize and an opportunity to see their work presented to the public with a critique by a panel of theatre professionals.  Deadline for submission is October 25, 2006.  Please visit www.sttammanyart.org for complete guidelines.

MANDEVILLE CITIZENS URGED TO “SHOW AND TELL”: If you have some interesting stories, letters, photos, films or artifacts relating to the rich 170-year history of Mandeville, the City has an offer for you.  A recently announced “Art for Artifact” program will give a limited edition color reproduction of a 1920’s era poster promoting the City to anyone providing useful historical information that can be used in the Cultural and Interpretive Center planned at the Trailhead in Old Mandeville. CITY OF SLIDELL INVITES ARTISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN ARTS EVENING 2006: Arts Evening will be held Saturday, November 4 in Olde Town Slidell. CLASSES, TRAINING, WEBLINKS, ETC…

 

ST. TAMMANY ART ASSOCIATION PRESENTS “PAINTING THE LANDSCAPE, WITH OR WITHOUT THE FIGURE”:  Designed for both portraitists and landscape artists, this course takes painters out of the studio and into historic downtown Covington where they paint from a live model in a natural setting.  This is a master class led by California painter, Charles Muench.  November 1-5, 9:30am-4:30pm.  $475 per student, $450 for STAA members.  Ages 18 and over.  Call 985-892-8650.
