Help Available to Remove Cars & Boats from Private Property
LA Department of Environmental Quality Announces New Program

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and DRC, the contractor in charge of towing cars and vessels damaged by the hurricanes, are expanding the process to include private property. Up to now, the state and its contractor have towed more than 10,000 cars and recreational boats from the public right of way.   This new program allows St. Tammany citizens to receive help removing cars and boats remaining from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, from their property.

“This state program will assist St. Tammany Parish in our Neighborhood Restoration Initiative,” said Parish President Kevin Davis.  “It’s time to move forward.”

Under the expanded program, citizens can have the items removed free of charge by the state. Property owners should go to the DEQ website at www.deq.louisiana.gov or the DRC website at www.drcusa.com for a copy of the right-of-entry form and for more information concerning the process involved.   The right of entry form is also available at the St. Tammany Parish website, www.stpgov.org/pdf/roe_privatepropertyowners.doc.  Local government, businesses, apartment complex owners and others can use the same form for removing vehicles and vessels from their premises.

Anyone wanting a car or boat removed must fill out and sign a right-of-entry form that can be found on the websites. The signed copy should be faxed, hand delivered or mailed to DRC. Cars and boats that are going to be removed from private property must be within 200 feet of a public access road. The car or recreational boat will be towed to one of DRC’s staging areas and the Louisiana State Police will send a notice to the vehicle owner’s last known address advising them where the vehicle or vessel can be found if they are interested in retrieving it.
