Contracts Awarded to Clean 2.7 Million Linear Feet of Drainage Ditches

Contracts have been awarded to four separate companies to clean 2,711,602 linear feet of roadside drainage ditches in St. Tammany Parish.  McDonald Construction, DRC, Inc., R.J. Booty and Covington Paving submitted the lowest bids to clean twenty areas of drainage ditches across St. Tammany Parish. The public bids were opened October 10, 2006.

“We have awarded these contracts to expedite storm water drainage in St. Tammany Parish post-Katrina,” said Parish President Kevin Davis.  “We need to clean the ditches and reshape them from storm and debris damage.  We are asking FEMA to assist us with the funding for this project.  I hope to have an answer from them soon.”

The total cost of the roadside ditch cleaning program is $7,024,219.56.  McDonald Construction and DRC, Inc. were awarded contracts in the eastern and southern areas of the parish, RJ Booty and Covington Paving will work in the western and northern areas of the parish.

Contractors will be given the notice to proceed with the work after contracts are signed and proper insurance and other paperwork are complete.  Once the notice to proceed is given, the contractors have 90 days to complete the work.

“The work will be complete before we begin the next rainy season,” continued Davis.
