Animal Services Partners with Pet Harbor
The St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services has recently united with the non-profit web-based organization Pet Harbor to reunite pets and their owners. Pet Harbor is a nationwide search engine sponsored by Chameleon Software Products, Inc. This large, public-access database system enables users to search for lost and adoptable pets across the United States and Canada.
Dr. Brent Robbins, Director of Animal Services for St. Tammany Parish, welcomed this alliance. “The partnership between St. Tammany Parish and Pet Harbor will allow the citizens of our parish to locate their lost pets with greater ease,” he said.
Thousands of lost pets are brought into St. Tammany Department of Animal Services each year. The facility is located at 25026 Hwy 36 near Abita Springs. Many animals go unclaimed because owners do not know where to find them. The Pet Harbor website may be a tremendous asset for pet owners hoping to reunite with their lost animals.
Owners of unwanted pets should bring them to Animal Services. There is no cost to drop off an unwanted pet. After an examination, the animals may be made available for adoption through Pet Harbor. Animal Services personnel will place a digital picture on the website. The picture of the lost or adoptable animal will be immediately available for public view across the nation. Pet Harbor has been a success from the date of its launch one month ago. Interested citizens may visit www.petharbor.com to search for lost pets or to locate adoptable animals in St. Tammany Parish.
