Drainage Work Completed in Westwood Pond

The St. Tammany Parish Public Works Department has completed work in the Westwood detention pond that provides storm water drainage relief to the Tall Timbers subdivision, Westwood Estates, and other area residents.  Approximately 250,000 cubic feet of soil were removed from the detention pond, greatly increasing its capacity to hold storm water.

“The parish has identified strategic locations for new and/or improved storm water detention ponds across St. Tammany,” said Parish President Kevin Davis.  “Every new pond, every cleaned ditch, increases the safety of property in St. Tammany.”

“This project is Phase 1 of planned drainage improvements for the Tete L’ours basin,” said Councilman Marty Gould.  “This basin includes the above subdivisions as well Century Oaks, a portion of Meadowbrook, Asbury Road area, Carriage Lane and Cypress Lake.  We are addressing drainage aggressively in this area, including a proposed large detention pond on Sharp Road.”

The project took approximately six weeks and was completed by St. Tammany Parish employees from the Department of Public Works.  Westwood Pond is owned by St. Tammany Parish.
