FEMA Authorizes Clean Up of Rigolets
FEMA notified St. Tammany Parish today that the agency has authorized the clean up of approximately 50,000 cubic yards of debris near the intersection of Highway 433 and Highway 90 in the Rigolets Estates area.
The debris was deposited near the Rigolets pass by Hurricane Katrina as the storm surge left Lake Pontchartrain. The debris is primarily lumber and vegetation.
“It is essential to keep the Rigolets clear,” said Parish President Kevin Davis. “This small pass is responsible for draining Lake Pontchartrain. This cleaning will improve public safety on both shores.”
The debris will be removed by Omni Pinnacle, under the company’s Right-of-Entry contract with St. Tammany Parish using excavators and trucks. Work is expected to be complete before the end of the year.
