Musicians Wanted!!
Young Bands Compete for ‘Idol’ Status on Tammany Trace

St. Tammany Parish bands are invited to compete in “Jammin’ on the Trace,” to find St. Tammany’s best young emerging band of 2007.  Places are available for only ten bands so it is important to sign up quickly if your band wants to compete.  Call Lisa Maddox, director of the Tammany Trace at 985-867-9490 to sign up.

Five bands will compete June 28th and an additional five will compete July 26th.   First, second and third place awards will be given each of these nights.  The 1st and 2nd place winners will compete against each other on August 9th.  All 3 events will be from 6-9pm. One band will be crowned “Jammin’ on the Trace” Champ.  Prizes and honorariums will be awarded to all the winners.  The performances will be taped and broadcast on Access St. Tammany, Channel 10.

“Jammin’ on the Trace” is sponsored by St. Tammany Parish Government, St. Tammany Arts Commission, Tammany Trace Foundation, Abita Springs Water & Coca-Cola.  Assistance is also provided by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Reserve.

“This is a great opportunity for teens to play for their families and friends in a professional setting,” said Parish President Kevin Davis.  “We need more events like this for young adults during the summer months.”

“Jammin’ on the Trace gives young musicians experience working live with an audience and the chance to work with professional musicians and technicians in a mentoring atmosphere,” said James Hartman, chair of the St. Tammany Arts Commission.  “We need to encourage participation in the arts at all levels.”
